Rotary Club of Bangalore,in association with NSRCEL IIMB (Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore,) together hosted for the first time “Startup Hackathon” with the theme “Creating a Smarter Future” in a competitive format for various college students who are aspirers of being on their own. The objective being to provide a platform for students with entrepreneurship aptitude to demonstrate their capability, mentor them to improve their skills to bring out the best talents through this competition.



The hackathon started with Key Note speaker Mr. Suresh Bhagavatula, NSRCEL who announced the beginning of the two day session involving problem statements given by Rotary Club of Bangalore - related to

• Farming,

• Parking System

• Waste Management

• Long queues for Billing in Shopping Malls and

• Elderly care



Young presenters who were in 12 teams comprising of 4 members in a team had to come up with Business Solutions for the above problems strivedto arrive at solutions for the problem statements provided them at the venue and to present it to the jury. The winning team PESIT took the prize money is Rs.50000/- whereas the Runner up team AMC College of Engineering won Rs.20000/- for the runner up along with an opportunity to incubate their business venture in NSRCEL IIMB.



The group of young minds in a competitive format participated in anenvironment that innovate on a theme. The event driven by Rtns. R. Raghunathan and Dileep Pillai supported by President Rtn Vivek Prabhu and their Committee Members mooted an idea to create a startup Eco System involving Final Year Graduate students coming from various streams to pursue Entrepreneurship. In the process the team approached NSRCEL – a Startup hub at the IIM Bangalore, who instantly partnered in making this ambitious project to bring to reality. As the Director Vocational Service Rtn R Raghunathan states that “Hackathon in the true sense of the word and participation in a program of this nature giving one’s best is equally important so that one day Rotary Club of Bangalore and NSRCEL would like to see somebody from this audience to be the next Steve Jobs, Elon Musk or Mark Zukerberg.”



The program Startup Hackathon with the theme “CREATING A SMARTER FUTURE”, selected the aspirers on an Online format where in 70 entries from various Engineering and Management Institutes and shortlisted to form 12 Teams for the finals and took the stage on February 9th& 10th at RCB consisting of mentors from our Rotarians and NSRCEL.Vocational Service Committee has specifically created this program to give participants guidelines and drive home that the Lean Canvas start up methodology followed by creating a solution for real life day to day problems and highlight that to own an interesting project is a source of fun in a nice environment which gives a chance to self-develop and its double fun if one proves to be right and win a prize.
