Press Note Issued by the DJB

The water supply in South & Eeast Delhi faces a major crisis due to the sole reason that the responsiblity of water supply is on a government department. Although a Delhi Jal Board (DJB) press note cite the reason being high levels of ammonia in the raw water. The DJB on Saturday announced that due to the closure of the Upper Ganga Canal the raw water was lifted from Yamuna which contain a very high concentration of ammonia.

NewsBoosters has the copy of the Press Note and we are attaching the same for our readers, which also contains emergency helpline numbers of both Soth Delhi & East Delhi. But as supposed, none of these numbers are working. There are numerous citizens who tried to contact on these emergency numbers and ended up getting a busy tone all the time.

According to Anil Ahuja, a resident of South Delhi, "I have continuously tried from 8 am to 9 am and then again from 1.30 to 2.30 pm. The line is continuously engaged. DJB is simply wasting time and making a fool of public by such gimmicks."

One Narendra Kumar also spoke pathetically: "Total chaos. Why don''t this problem be resolved on emergency basis. These telephone numbers are coming as busy. I am quite sure that officials must have put receiver down."

However, if you visit the DJB website, you won't find any update about the current water crisis. See their news section, which has not been updated since Sept, 15, 2017; http://www.delhi.gov.in/wps/wcm/connect/doit_djb/DJB/Home/Latest+News.

If you check their press releases, the latest press release is of 20th Jan, 2017:  http://www.delhi.gov.in/wps/wcm/connect/doit_djb/DJB/Home/Press+Release

Bhagirathi and Sarita Vihar water treatment plants have been closed and this is the reason why the majority of the areas of South and East Delhi will not get any water supply for two days. The scenario is getting worse, as water bottles are aslo not available in the market and there are several stores that are charging extra prices from the poor residents, who are all set to suffer due to the negligence of the DJB.
