Ashwin Malik Meshram Foundation launched a free mental well-being helpline under their initiative, “Mind Matters” for people affected by the Covid pandemic. Since the past year people have been going through different sets of problems irrespective of Covid affecting them or not. The pandemic has brought about a whole range of mental troubles for people all over the country. This helpline will act as a rope for people who feel that the light isn’t there at the end of the tunnel.

The helpline was launched in the month of May seeing the situation of our country getting worse each day. Through this helpline people will receive free counselling from professional counsellors. The pandemic struck a fear in the minds of people when it hit us and majority of them haven’t spoken out about it. With the aim of improving the state of minds caused by the pandemic, Ashwin Malik Meshram foundation started this helpline.

Studies suggest people are facing issues like depression and insomnia which if left to fester could lead to even worse situations. Respiratory problems caused due to the sickness have shown that majority of the patients face sleep disorders. Experts say it has been seen in many patients that memory impairment was caused due to oxygen deficiency. Out of the total affected by the sickness 10% of them face depression. Medical issues are not the only triggers for emotional distress. The pandemic has caused unemployment to shoot up. Various businesses have shutdown due to the lockdowns imposed in our country. People who have lost family members and loved ones have also been affected severely.

If you look at Covid when it had hit us last year and if you look at it today, the situation is completely different. People know much more about the disease and how it will affect them. The feeling of being stuck in a place is making people claustrophobic and anxiety is getting worse. The “Mind Matters” mental well-being helpline will provide support to people irrespective of whether they’ve been struck by the disease or not. With continuous efforts and hundreds of people aided through this helpline, Ashwin Malik Meshram foundation aims to support more than 5000 people during these tough times.

“Discussing mental health in our country has been a taboo for many years. The pandemic has made the prevalence of this problem worse. The criticality to address mental well-being has never been more important and we need to come together to help the people in need.”
