According to UGC Helpline, other states with high number of ragging cases includes West Bengal (53), Uttar Pradesh (51), Orissa (30), Kerala (29), Tamil Nadu (25), Karnataka 23and Bihar (21) cases during the year 2015. However, there was sharp decline in number of cases registered in MP from 80 ragging complaints in the year 2013 to 74 complaints in the year 2014 and 48 complaints in 2015
WITH the arrival of New Year, ragging complaints have started flooding the University Grant Commission (UGC) Helpline. A first year student from RAK College of Agriculture has reported a ragging complaint to the helpline on Tuesday.
The college is affiliated to Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Krishi Vishwavidyalay, Gwalior. Complainant alleged that, junior students in college are literally scared of seniors. He said that, he is unable to go anywhere alone. Victim also informed that, senior students beat up their juniors badly. A complaint has been forwarded to the local police station and college principal. As per UGC helpline, there is one complaint from Madhya Pradesh, one complaint from Karnataka, one from Kerala and one complaint that has been received from Uttar Pradesh in the New Year 2017.
It may be noted that, Madhya Pradesh tops the list of states with highest number of ragging cases in educational campuses during the year 2016. National Anti-Ragging Helpline showed total 50 ragging reports registered in the year 2016. The State has already emerged as unsafe place for females and now it has topped the list of ragging issues. Earlier, in the year 2015, MP registered 48 ragging complaints from campuses, enlisting third topper in ragging issues across the country. “We have put various restrictions on students to curb ragging menace from campuses. Affidavits are submitted during admission, anti-ragging committee has been set up, several students have been suspended from hostels and campuses but even after all these things complaints are being reported. However, there are some fake complaints to take personal revenge.” said Anil Goel, Student Welfare Dean RGPV. |
