A recent assembly gathered representatives from 9 countries around the world including the United States, China, Australia and South Africa – for a 2-day forum held at Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

The focus of the form was to examine various forms of traditional and complementary medicines – including Ayurvedic, Yoga, Tai Chi, Homeopathy and a selection of traditional medicines created by the various countries represented at the event. In addition to this thorough examination of medicinal forms, the forum was designed to introduce all in attendance to a multitude of premises, histories and well-defined policies of associated practices and systems.

A Surprise Revelation

A highlight of the forum assembly came in the form of the various elements shared by the attendees. As referenced above, there was a vast range of cultural backgrounds, ethnicities and nationalities represented at this international assembly. However, a common thread that connected all cultures together was the apparent oppression from external forces that preferred pharmaceutical medicines over traditional medicines – regardless of the case studies and reports that supported traditional alternatives over “Big Pharma.”

An Opportunity for Social Interaction and Dining

The forum event allowed all in attendance to benefit from an extensive list of cultural and academic elements – specifically during the various sessions, demonstrations and keynote presentations scheduled for the group in advance. However, the social interactions that organically occurred as the attendees dined together for their meals throughout the day as well as at the formal banquet in a riverfront restaurant allowed them to learn even more about each other’s cultures and backgrounds – lessons that could no easily be taught within a presentation or lecture.

Presenters, hosts and selected attendees were also engaged in conversations regarding the future of these forum events. Reports confirm that a future iteration in 2-3 years of the event was discussed in detail. Based on the success of this year’s event, it is very likely that another forum assembly will be planned and coordinated soon.
