In order to generate awareness on Lung transplantation, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Saket, organized a press conference to share facts and myths along with rising incidents of pulmonary diseases seen in the city. Globally, millions are being diagnosed with interstitial lung disease (ILD) COPD, bronchitis which can be attributed to genetic abnormalities and rising pollution besides unhealthy lifestyles.

There is an increase in the number of patients with end-stage pulmonary diseases in the past few years which can be attributed to the poor air quality accompanied by smoking which clearly disrupts the lungs causing end-stage pulmonary diseases in the long run.

Shedding light on the pulmonary health conditions of residents of Jaipur, Dr Rahul Chandola, Associate Director - Adult CTVS, Heart & Lung Transplant Specialist, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Saket, said, “Those who are regularly exposed to toxic fumes and particulate matter such as people working in marble quarries and paint industry have a high incidence of pulmonary fibrosis (ILD) due to direct exposure without provision for protective gears and routine screening. Such numbers are on a rise from across the state. Raising awareness remains the key to curbing such rising incidents and prevention of these life-threatening diseases. The life expectancy in end-stage lung diseases is dismal and the lung transplantation is the ‘Gold Standard’ to provide long term survival in these patients. The option of lung transplantation is now available in North India in Max Hospital, Saket for end stage lung diseases.’’

The lung and heart lung transplant team of Max Hospital, Saket is lead by Dr. Rahul Chandola, heart and Lung Transplant surgeon who is trained at premiere institutes in North America (Toronto, Alberta) and Germany. Team also has specialised transplant pulmonologists, intensitivists, transplant anaesthetist, coordinators, and social workers and has a dedicated pulmonary transplant rehabilitation program.
