Leading healthcare provider in North India, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Shalimar Bagh, organized a press conference in Sonepat today, to spread awareness on the latest hassle-free technology in cardiac surgeries. This advance technique not only ensures a seamless surgery process but also helps minimizing post-operative risks such as – excessive blood loss, surgical trauma, pain and more. Honouring the conference with their presence were Dr. Veenu Kaul Aima, Associate Director- CTVS and Dr. Mohammad Mubeen, Associate Director- CTVS from Max Super Speciality Hospital, Shalimar Bagh.

MICAS is a safe and complete operation that has revolutionized the way coronary surgery is performed. There is an evident growth in the number of surgeries, mainly due to the benefits offered, such as – cosmetic benefits, decreased pain and reduced surgical trauma and reduced hospital stay. In this technique, the heart is approached through the side of the left chest via a small 2-3inch incision. The chest is entered between the ribs without cutting any bones and by splitting the muscle. Similar to a regular heart surgery, the operation is performed using all arteries or a combination of arteries and veins removed from the leg. The procedure is used to treat Coronary artery bypass, Mitral valve repair, Mitral valve replacement, Aortic valve replacement, Atrial septal defects (Hole In Heart) and more.

Present at the event Dr. Veenu Kaul Aima, Associate Director- CTVS, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Shalimar Bagh, discussed, “India has witnessed an alarming rise in the occurrence of heart disease in the past 25 years. Unfortunately, lack of awareness is a huge challenge faced by all healthcare providers. People often do not recognize the common symptoms of cardiac problem or seek immediate medical aid. Adding to this, the increase of sedentary lifestyle and food habits also triggers arterial blockages and, coronary heart disease and more.”

he added, “Over the past 3- 4 years, we have seen a considerable increase in the number of MICS cases. With reference to Conventional Coronary Bypass surgery, it is performed by cutting through a 10inch cut on the breastbone or sternum, while MICAS is minimally invasive and is heart is approached through the side of the left chest via a small 2-3 inch incision. Max Super Speciality Hospital, Shalimar Bagh has always encouraged innovative and advanced medical techniques that improve overall healthcare delivery and ensure a seamless service to our patients. With this technology, we are reaching out to people to raise awareness on the latest technological advancements in the field of cardiology.”

Adding to this Dr. Mohammad Mubeen, Associate Director – CTVS, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Shalimar Bagh said “The first and foremost advantage of MICAS is the fact that no bones are cut. This has several advantages in reducing pain, retaining function and having a positive effect on breathing. Unlike traditional heart surgery return to normal life, including driving or other activities is not disrupted and can be started almost immediately. Second, blood loss is almost negligible eliminating blood transfusion in most and eliminating blood borne infection. Third, all infections are reduced whether it be wound infections or post-surgical lung infection. This makes the procedure ideal in diabetics and older patients who have poor resistance to infection. Fourth, the incision is so cosmetic and measures just 2-3inches that it's practically impossible to tell that a heart operation has been done. Fifth, the Hospital stay is only 4 days unlike the conventional heart surgery that takes requires 8 -10 days of Hospital stay. This procedure makes heart surgery possible for patients who were previously considered too high risk for traditional surgery due to age or medical history”
