Chronic musculoskeletal pain is not a small problem. Over 100 million Americans suffer from chronic pain. Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Technology (EPAT) is an advanced non-invasive procedure that uses acoustic pressure waves for healing musculoskeletal pain. EPAT improves the regenerative potential in an area that has degenerated because of poor blood flow, tissue injury, overuse or weakness. By improving blood flow to the injured tissue, EPAT can decrease pain, improve mobility and restore function.

“This non-invasive office-based procedure represents a breakthrough treatment option for a broad range of musculoskeletal conditions for our patients.” Veronica Jow, MD and founder of Avid Sports Medicine San Francisco said. “The procedure takes place in our office during a regular appointment, after assessing that it is an appropriate option for your issue.”

What can be treated with EPAT? Generally, acute or chronic musculoskeletal pain and/or pain that significantly impairs mobility or quality of life. EPAT can be used for many acute or chronic musculoskeletal issues. It is especially helpful for: neck, shoulder, back and chest, upper extremity, lower extremity, foot and ankle, and myofascial trigger points. While the parent technology for EPAT has been used effectively for many decades, recent advances now allow us to apply it to musculoskeletal issues in a simple office setting.

Treatment sessions take approximately 10 minutes depending on the disorder to be treated. Generally, 3 treatment sessions are necessary at weekly intervals. This FDA cleared technology was developed in Europe and is currently used around the globe. A wealth of medical experience, state-of-the-art engineering, and optimal quality have been built into each EPAT device; and extensive clinical studies and tests have confirmed its safety and efficacy.

Book an appointment with Dr. Jow, our sports medicine physician, to evaluate your individual issue and discuss the potential for EPAT treatment. Alternatively, schedule a free consult call to determine if Avid is the best fit for you before coming in.
