Korean Cultural Centre in collaboration with Department of East Asian Studies, University of Delhi, organized 10th All India Korean Language Speech Contest. The event was graced in the presence of South Korean acting Ambassador Lee Hai-kwang, Director of Korean Cultural Centre - Kim Kum-pyoung, Anita Sharma – HOD Department of East Asian Studies,DU, Prof. Kim Do-young, Director Korean Studies  Jamia Millia Islamia, Cho Youngseok - Senior Vice-President, Asiana Airlines and distinguished Korean study scholars.  

The auditorium was full with more than 400 audience from Universities form Pan India, Faculties and management members. The competitors were motivated by announcement of scholarships worth Rupees 5.4 Lakh by South Korean Asiana Airlines.

Sindhoora Premmaaraju from King Sejong Institute, Delhi won the 1st prize in Advance level and was awarded with Rs. 60,000, Neha Cariappa - King Sejong Institute, Delhi took the 1st position in intermediate level with a winning prize of rs. (Rs. 50,000) and Tomtheel from Manipur University stood 1st in Beginner level and won a prize of rs. 45,000.

Selected 29 students from University of Delhi, Jawaharlal Nehru University, University of Delhi, Amity University, Central university of Jharkhand, Varanasi University, Manipur University and King Sejong Institutes of Korean Cultural Centre India in New Delhi and Patna,competed at three different levels: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced. The theme was ‘Korea-India: Cooperation and Development for future’. Seven Korean judges precisely assessed the contestants at the contents, fluency and accuracy of the speeches.

Honourable Lee Hai-kwang said that ‘It is very important for Indian students to make effort to learn Korean language as the Indian – Korean mutual relation is deepening day by day. This will also help in increasing employability opportunity and scope for working closely. Many institutes in India have already adopted Korean language in regular curriculum. We are also getting request from many Indian universities to start Korean language classes. And I am also surprized to see that we already have a history of long 9 years speech contest.’  

Kim Kum-pyoung, Director of Korean Cultural Centre India, congratulated all the 29 participants.  He was happy to share that this time students were awarded with a reasonable amount of scholarship with the help of sponsors. Even the participation nowhas become very healthy and the participation number has also increased.

While getting deepened knowledge about Korea, participants and audience also got a chance to look the culture of Korea through various performances from singing to Taekwondo by students of JNU, DU and Korean Cultural Centre.
