With decades of excellence in treating several patients suffering from cancer, Max Super Speciality Hospital Vaishali has now come up with its OPD services for management of Gastrointestinal Cancers at Max Med Centre Meerut.

With the launch of this OPD, local residents will be highly benefited in terms of reduced travel for primary consultations and expert opinion due to the availability of specialist doctors in Meerut. Though in case of emergency, patients from Meerut can also reach Max Hospital Vaishali in a much shorter period of time with the improved connectivity.

The OPD will be operational from 10th December on 2nd and 4th Thursdays every month from 10 AM to 1 PM and the doctors from Max Hospital Vaishali will be physically present as per the schedule for first opinion.

Since early detection of such cancers can have favourable outcomes with respect to the advancements made in the field of oncology treatment, it is imperative to state that awareness plays a major role.

Gastrointestinal cancers comprise a group of cancers that affect the GI tract and the digestive system including Oesophagus, liver, stomach, gallbladder, pancreas, small intestines, colon, rectum and anus. Usually, such cancers develop through the formation of an ulcer inside the stomach lining that metastasizes throughout the other parts.

As per the recent data provided by Globocan 2018, GI cancers account for around 20% of all the cancer cases registered that year, amounting to 2,31,070 new cases with a mortality rate of 1,96,854. While stomach cancer remains the leading cause of mortality and morbidity among all the other GI Cancers, colorectal cancers were seen profoundly in both the genders accounting for at least 56751 new cases (25%), following oesophageal cancer. The data also suggests that male were highly susceptible to oesophageal, stomach and colorectal cancers with a total of 1,09,395 new cases registered.

“The rising incidence of cancer cases in the country goes to prove the level of unawareness about the disease and early detection coupled with deteriorating lifestyle of people. Through the launch of this OPD service, people from Meerut will not only be able to access the best-in-class services but raised awareness about the disease will also enhance them for a better and healthy lifestyle. Recent data shows that developing countries are facing a sharp increase in cancer incidence. But at the same time, there have been numerous advancements in cancer care. However, the majority of our population is not able to avail the benefits of these developments due to sheer lack of knowledge and myths associated with the subject.” Said Dr Vivek Mangla, Associate Director & Head, Gastrointestinal & HPB Surgical Oncology Max Institute of Cancer Care Max Hospital, Vaishali.

This initiative of Max Super Speciality Hospital, Vaishali is expected to push people to include some degree of physical activity in their daily routine and to live a healthier life. Over the years, Max Healthcare has been actively working towards offering international standards of healthcare facilities in different regions across the country. The leading healthcare player organizes numerous health-camps, OPDs and screening camps in different parts of North India.

“We, at Max Healthcare, are striving to bridge this gap by spreading awareness about the importance of early detection. Our endeavour is to raise awareness on cancer and provide a holistic and supportive environment for such patients in their journey. Cancer is a disease that not only impacts a person physically, but also has a major impact on their mental and emotional psyche. Fighting against Cancer takes immense strength and determination from one’s end. Therefore, people need to be aware about the symptoms and ensure regular check-ups for early detection. In the majority of cancer cases in the country, delayed diagnosis is the primary cause of mortality. Timely screening, vaccination, early detection plays an integral role in reducing the occurrence of cancer.” Said Management
