Commenting on increasing incidence of spinal issues, Dr. Girdhar, who specializes in the microsurgical and non-surgical management of spinal disorders involving neck and back, said, “Modern lifestyle, prolonged sitting and excess use of screen technology the neck and lower back undergoes abnormal stresses resulting in alarming increase in disc disorders. There are one billion people who suffer from back and spinal pain. One in four adults is estimated to suffer from these pains during their lives. Moreover its advisable to screen children with spinal deformity at the earlier stage for better clinical outcomes. But the paucity of specialists and spine surgeons in town delays their treatment reported many times after worsening of the condition. The modern minimal invasive micro-endospine technology has made spine interventions the safest.”

She said, “A vast majority of those affected delay seeking medical help, and neglect the problem, especially when there are no specialists available nearby. The introduction of specialized OPD consultation can ensure early diagnosis and proper treatment of chronic digestive disorders and diseases like Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and inflammatory bowel diseases like crohns and ulcerative colitis.”

With the launch of this OPD, local residents will be benefited not just in terms of reduced travel for primary consultations and expert opinion due to the availability of specialist doctors; in cases of emergency, patients will also have access to the expertise of doctors at BLK Hospital.
