Education is a completely evolving field, and to ensure its continued growth, teachers should also evolve themselves. Their enhanced knowledge will introduce their students to the new facets. Engineering and computational techniques are growing exponentially over recent years. There has been a significant growth in Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of Things, Big Data, Blockchain technology. Machine Learning techniques with their presence help get the machine progressively better in doing its tasks. All these have increased the demand for professionals and researchers. Keeping this in mind, the Amity Academics Staff College in association with Amity School of Engineering and Technology at Amity University Haryana organized a Five Day Online Faculty Enrichment Program on ‘Computational Methods for Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Blockchain Technology’ from 5th July to 9th July 2021. The program was inaugurated today by Prof P B Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Haryana in the august presence of Vice Chancellors of Amity Universities in India, Deans, Heads of Institutions, large number of faculty members, research scholars and 137 registered participants from various universities and institutions from across the country.

The University faculty need to continuously update their knowledge in their chosen field of expertise as well as keep themselves updated with the 21st-century skills and technologies to deliver not only up to date knowledge but also to participate in the creation of new knowledge through engagement in Research and Development and cause innovations and new product development.

Addressing the gathering Prof P B Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, Amity University Haryana said, “We need to understand the aspirations of the current and future generations of the new-age learners and redesign the higher education system accordingly. Through Artificial Intelligence we can solve various life problems easily. AI, Block Chains and Machine learning are major drivers of the world in various fields like healthcare, Education, Farming Sector, Governance and Corporate world. AI is being conceived as the target of achieving human intelligence with Global exposure.

I would like to encourage all the participants from various other departments to learn from the FEP as “Learning don’t finish until we die”, added Prof Sharma.

Dr. Munish Jindal, Founder & CEO of HoverRobotix and Founding President of MENTORx while delivering his lecture on “Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning: Transforming Academia to Industry” said, AI is changing the world. AI is being used in personality checking based on selfie photographs to ordering food based on past orders. It has numerous applications in the field of agriculture, healthcare, banking, education, online shopping etc. Image analysis, Virtual Assistants, Predictive Analysis are few trending areas. The day is not far when we walk hand in hand with Robots.

“Smartwatch is an example of AI which is used to monitor the health of humans by recording heartbeat, footsteps. Autonomous tractors and Agriculture Robots are another example of AI in the field of agriculture for irrigation, seeding, taking care of plant health. We should understand that it is Man with Machine instead of Man or Machine while AI and Machine Learning is making its root firm.” added Dr Jindal.

Answering one of the many questions asked in the session about the security issues while using the internet, Dr Jindal advised that we need to be very careful and cautious while using any technology, in simple words I would like to suggest to you that ‘your privacy is in your hands’.

In the second plenary session Dr Vikas Hada, Associate Professor, AUH in his lecture ‘Machine Learning Based Web Apps’ covered the basics of supervised machine learning in a very short manner followed by developing binary and multiclass classification model. Once models are built using flask and streamlit deployments of development model will be done on the public cloud. Complete process will be done by using python and anaconda framework.

Coordinating the event Dr Sanjna Vij, Program Director, Academic Staff College, AUH said, “Learning is a continuous and never-ending process. It doesn’t stop after earning a degree or at the starting or middle of a career. Through continuous learning, aspiring faculty can constantly improve and update themselves”. Dr Shalini Bhaskar Bajaj, Director, ASET, AUH while chairing the FEP, explained that, “Through these sessions we aim to offer a platform to learn the basics of emerging trends, evolving computational methods along with practical knowledge on the design and implementation of intelligent systems. The sessions are focussed towards improving faculty’s/participants’ ability in carrying out research, testing & consultancy in computational techniques.

Rear Admiral K K Pandey (Retd), HR Director, Dr. Shweta Sinha, Dr Charu Jain, Dr Rashmi Gupta, Dr Ruchi, Dr Anuj Kumar Singh, Dr Khushboo, Dr Sunil Sikka and Ms Arti along with faculty and students attended the webinar.
