Many things that have in your own home can be used to help relieve tooth and gum pain. If you are experiencing tooth and gum pain and are unable to get to the dentist right away, you can try the following home remedies:

1. Apply cold/warm compress.

Both cold and warm compresses can provide relief from tooth and gum pain. If you use a cold compress, wrap it in a clean cloth first and then gently press it to the area of your face where the pain is located. If you use a warm compress, heat some water first and then let it cool down a little bit to not burn your skin.

2. Rinse mouth with saltwater.

Salt is great at eliminating and stopping the growth of bacteria in the mouth. To prepare a saltwater mouthwash, mix one cup of hot water with one teaspoon of salt. Wait until it cools down a bit, and then swish some in your mouth for at least 30 seconds before spitting it out. Rinse your mouth with clean water. Repeat two or more times a day for a few days until the pain and swelling disappear.

3. Rinse mouth with hydrogen peroxide.

Hydrogen peroxide is a common household product that many use for cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfection. It can also be an effective remedy for tooth and gum pain because of its ability to kill germs and bacteria in the mouth. To make a hydrogen peroxide mouthwash, mix equal parts hydrogen peroxide and water. Swish it in your mouth for at least 20 seconds, spit it out, and then rinse your mouth with clean water.

4. Apply an herbal paste.

There are certain herbs and spices that can be used as tooth and gum pain remedies. One example is garlic, which is capable of not only enhancing the flavors of your dishes but also killing harmful bacteria. You can crush one glove of garlic until you make a paste, and then directly apply it on your tooth and gum. Another example is turmeric, which possesses anti-inflammatory properties that may help treat tooth and gum pain and swelling. You can mix ½ teaspoon of turmeric with a small amount of water to make a paste. Apply it to the affected area and leave it there for about 5 minutes before rinsing it off with warm water.

5. Apply vanilla extract.

Many recipes use vanilla extract to enhance their flavors. But did you know that vanilla extract may also help with tooth and gum pain because of its antioxidant properties? To relieve your tooth and gum pain, you can dab some vanilla extract on the affected area with a cotton ball or your finger a few times a day.

Even if your tooth and gum pain goes away with the help of these homemade remedies, you should still see a dentist right away. In the NYC area, you can find dentists by looking up “pain in tooth NYC dentist,” “gum pain NYC dental clinic,” or something similar. Your “pain in tooth NYC dentist” or “gum pain NYC dental clinic” search should provide you with listings you can contact.
