Dr Prathap Kumar N, the country's renowned Interventional Cardiologist and chairman of Meditrina Group of Hospitals, will perform live Zero Contrast Angioplasty (ZCA) for the first time in India at a national conference organised by the Cardiological Society of India (CSI)-National Interventional Council (NIC) to be held in Ahmedabad for three days beginning June 17.

CSI NIC mind-term conference where the live ZCA case will be performed for the first time at such national platform is to be attended by elite Interventional Cardiologists from all over the country in Ahmedabad. The three-day-long CSI - NIC mid-term meet is being organised for the first-time post-pandemic.

“The idea behind performing live ZCA for the first time at a national conference is to inspire fellow Interventional Cardiologists from across the country to understand the fact that angioplasty can be performed on the kidney failure patients without the fear of pushing them on the permanent dialysis,” said Dr Prathap Kumar N.

Dr Prathap Kumar N, who is also the scientific chairman of CSI-NIC, will be performing live Zero Contrast Angioplasty (ZCA) on the chronic kidney disease patient in the presence of an elite Interventional cardiologist from across the country. Earlier, Dr Kumar performed two live ZCAs in a small crowd, but this is going to be done at the national-level conference in Ahmedabad.

An internationally acclaimed authority is performing the most complex angioplasties, Dr Prathap Kumar has performed over 40 zero contrast angioplasties in various Meditrina hospitals across the country in the last few months. He has been working on the ZCA technique for a long time now and has demonstrated a 100 percent success rate in patients suffering from acute kidney deficits.

Dr Prathap explains that patients with kidney failure who are not on dialysis, fear that after doing angioplasty they may be pushed into permanent dialysis. However, this is not the case as it can be avoided by ZCA. Many patients can have longer life as more than 80 percent of kidney failure patients die of a heart attack.

With the bare minimum amount of contrast, the chances of kidneys getting damaged are greatly reduced. However, with the high contrast or a large amount of dye that gets into the body during the angiogram in the patients with high creatinine levels and old age patients, the chances of kidney failure increase, pushing them into the condition of permanent dialysis.

On this, a leading medical device company, Concept Medical’s MD, Dr Manish Doshi said, “such outstanding procedures boost up the results of our interventional & drug delivery products. Such programmes help developing and improvising the new techniques and know how of the entire medical fraternity, which should be planned in every such meet not only interventional cardiology but in every speciality of the medical field.”

The main aim behind the live ZCA is to demonstrate the familiarity of IVUS and the wire usage and putting multiple wires in a patient at the CSI-NIC mid-term meeting at Ahmedabad.
