Citing to the increasing burden of neurology related ailments affecting the brain and spinal cord, India’s leading healthcare provider, BLK - Max Super Specialty Hospital, New Delhi, organised an interactive session, where they announced the launch of their regular & exclusive Neurosurgery OPD services today. The OPD Services were launched in partnership with the city-based Prakash Nursing home & Hospital. This is aimed at benefitting residents of Mathura and its neighbouring areas.

The OPD will be operational twice a month on the 1st and 3rd Monday every month from 10 AM to 2 PM to allow ease of access for patients in and around Mathura for super specialist consults pertaining to various neurological disorders like brain tumors, spinal complications, Parkinson’s Disease, Epilepsy, Migraine among many others. This will also drastically cut down on travels for neuroscience related consults for both patients and their caregivers.

Dr Rohit Bansil, Senior Consultant Neurosurgery & Neuro-spine, BLK - Max Super Specialty Hospital, New Delhi addressed the gathering and shed light on the growing incidence of brain & spine problems amongst people in tier II & III cities. Emphasis was also laid on the rising cases of neurological problems among all age groups. The motive of the session was to raise awareness about the advanced minimally invasive treatment modules available for complications including the brain and spine.

At the launch, Dr Rohit Bansil said “People often come to us with conditions such as headache, migraines, sudden or acute onset of dizziness or unconsciousness, trouble walking, loss of balance, sensation or coordination, trouble seeing with one or both eyes, speech problems, difficulty swallowing, etc. Only after a proper diagnosis we treat patients with conditions like Brain Tumour, Low backache and Spine diseases, etc. Through the launch of this OPD service, the people from Mathura will get access the best-in-class services and we will raise awareness about Neurological disorders. There have been tremendous advancements in such neurosurgeries including Keyhole Surgery, a less invasive alternative which offers many benefits such as minimal scarring, less blood loss, quicker recovery time, and a shorter hospital stay.”

With the rapidly growing advancements in the field of neurosciences, minimally invasive surgeries have completely changed the treatment module even for the most complex brain and spinal ailments.

While many patients fear the complications of open and traditional surgeries, but with recent advancements, Neuro surgeries have become minimally invasive and 100% safe with minimal blood loss and quicker recovery. While the cosmetic appeal is one of the major advantages, there is no trauma to the bone or muscles, keeping the contours well intact and the patient recovery time are also minimal in comparison to an open surgery.

“With the surgical expertise and advanced technology available, with the use of minimally invasive neuro-endoscopic procedures, even the most complicated and hard to access, sensitive tumors can be removed with low risk involved with positive outcomes. Around 50% of the brain tumors are non-cancerous and if treated properly, enhances the outcomes with patients resuming to normal life as before. Though conventional open surgery remains an alternative, but with a serious risk of blood loss, cosmetic appeal and even permanent paralysis/ disability. Given the size of the tumor, the risk would not have been advisable. This is where such surgeries become effective and risk-free, due to minimal pain, maintaining the cosmetic appeal, precise and minimally invasive.” Said Dr Rohit Bansil, Senior Consultant Neurosurgery & NeuroSpine, BLK - Max Super Specialty Hospital, New Delhi.

Due to the technological advancements in the field of Neuro Surgery, the quality-of-life post neurosurgery has significantly improved. Therefore, in planned surgeries, with the help of a comprehensive team, precise outcomes can be expected rather than on leaving the outcomes on chances.
