Leading healthcare provider in Faridabad and NCR region, Marengo QRG Hospital, announced the launch of their exclusive Gastro-intestinal surgery, HPB & Liver Transplant OPD Services in partnership with the city-based Prithviraj Hospital.

The OPD services were launched by Dr Dipankar S Mitra, Associate Director - Minimal Access, Gastrointestinal & HPB Surgery, Marengo QRG Hospital, Faridabad, who will also be visiting the OPD on 1st and 3rd Friday of every month from 12 noon to 1:30 PM for consultation.

With the launch of the OPD services, patients across age groups and all walks of life can avail the best consultation and treatment in Aligarh and nearby regions, without the inconvenience of travelling to another city. The facility will provide expert advice and treatment related to liver, pancreas and biliary ailments.

There is an alarming rise in the number of people suffering from fatty liver disease, with estimates close to 1 in 5 people having excess fat in their liver and at least 1 in 10 have fatty liver disease. Prolonged conditions without treatment leads to liver cirrhosis or even liver cancer. Last year in India, Liver cancer accounted for nearly 7% of all cancer related deaths in India and was the fourth most common cause of cancer related death.

“Prevalence of liver disease, pancreas, gastrointestinal, fatty liver and hepatitis is increasing at an alarming rate, most of which are preventable and treatable if diagnosed in the early stages. The patient begins to show symptoms only when over 70% of the liver has become dysfunctional. Anyone who is exposed to risk factors such as poor sanitation, lack of safe water and travelling to areas of high endemicity of liver diseases such as Hepatitis B & C can develop liver diseases. Therefore, the diagnosis of early-stage liver disease and treatment with correct strategies is pivotal to treat it successfully if irreversible liver damage has not yet occurred.” Said Dr. Dipankar S Mitra, Associate Director - Minimal Access, Gastrointestinal, HPB Surgery, Marengo QRG Hospital, Faridabad

While the last resort for liver failure condition is a liver transplant, there is a wide gap between patients who need transplants and the organs that are available in India. People need to be aware that with advancements in technology of live donor liver transplant there is no need to wait for a cadaver liver donation, and many lives can be saved. An estimated 2 lakh patients die of liver failure or liver cancer annually in India, about 10-15% of which can be saved with a timely liver transplant.

“Patients with advanced stages of liver disease who are critical come to us after they have exhausted other forms of treatment or have developed liver cancer. In most cases, patients who undergo liver transplant are very sick. Liver disease is the tenth most common cause of death in India as per the World Health Organisation (WHO). People who visited OPD have also been advised to adopt a healthy lifestyle, indulge in regular exercise and eat healthy food to avoid further complications.” He added

“We are really happy to have collaborated with one of the best Liver and Digestive centres in the country and strive to raise awareness about liver related issues. Our OPDs will offer consultation and encourage people to lead a healthy lifestyle as well as provide access to the best of technology. This OPD is going to be a valuable addition to the healthcare infrastructure of Aligarh by providing world-class treatment solutions to patients in the city right at their doorsteps. Our services will include all consultations and investigations and provide a comprehensive line of treatment.” Said Dr Shobhit Sengar, Director & Founder – Prithviraj Hospital, Aligarh.

“We are very proud to have launched our exclusive GI & Liver Transplant OPD services in Aligarh. This adds yet another feather to the multi-specialised services that Marengo QRG Hospital offers for its patients well-being and vision for affordable super specialized services to all. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a distinct hepatic condition and one of the most common causes of chronic liver disease globally.
