The prominent G-20 Conference on "Achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for a Better World" organised at IILM University's campus brought together esteemed experts, policymakers, and thought leaders to address pressing global issues and drive the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.



Celebrating the presidency of India at the G20, the conference commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp. Following this, Professor Sujata Shahi, Vice Chancellor of IILM University, delivered the welcome address, extending her gratitude for the forthcoming informative sessions.



Another key highlight of the event was an impactful address by the Honourable Chief Guest, Mr Harsh VardhanShringla, Chief Coordinator of G20 India Presidency who emphasised the crucial role of global collaboration in achieving sustainable development.



''India has exhibited strong leadership during its G20 presidency by emphasising pressing issues such as climate funding and supporting women-led progress. Our dedication to achieving sustainable development goals is evident through the successful coordination of 185 G20 events in 56 cities across the country. This impressive endeavour highlights India's unprecedented commitment to collaborating with the global community to build an inclusive future,'' said Mr Shringla.



The day-long G20 conference also encompassed numerous thought-provoking and meticulously designed sessions to delve into essential aspects of sustainable development-:



● Session 1: Quality Education as a Tool for Nurturing and Enhancing Human Capacity



Chaired by Dr Bhimaraya Metri, Director of IIM Nagpur, this session explored the transformative potential of quality education in nurturing a peaceful and prosperous world.



● Session 2: Gender Equality for a Peaceful, Prosperous, and Sustainable World



Prof. Mahadeo Jaiswal, Founding Director of IIM Sambalpur, chaired this session, which emphasised gender equality as a fundamental human right and a foundation for a peaceful and sustainable world.



● Session 3: Addressing Inequality, Access to Finance, and Responsible Consumption for a Better World



Chaired by Prof. Raj Nehru, Vice Chancellor of Shri Vishwakarma Skill University, the session analysed approaches to address inequality, improve access to finance, and encourage responsible consumption for a better world.



Some other notable personalities who added unprecedented value to the conference and associated discussions included-: Ambassador Monika Kapil Mohta, Former Indian Ambassador to Switzerland; Mr Stephen C Patton, South Asia Director for Liverpool and Mr CK Mishra, IAS, Former Secretary at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India.



Highlighting the immense potential of women in fuelling a sustainable change, Former Ambassador Monika KapilMohta, said,''Women have a deep connection with natural resources, whether it's the long distances they travel to gather firewood or their nurturing role in managing water. They rely heavily on these valuable resources. When women are included in decision-making, a peaceful and inclusive evolution occurs. This demonstrates the tangible benefits that their participation brings to the world.''
