GD Goenka Public School, Vasant Kunj, one of the eminent educational institutions in the country, successfully organised the 11th edition of its International Model United Nations Conference on July 19 and 20.



The two-day conference, themed "Time to Act; Time to Change," brought together Young intellectuals from more than 30 prominent schools, including Vasant Valley School, Delhi Public School RK Puram, Modern School Barakhamba Road, Lotus Valley International School Noida, The Mother's International School, GD Goenka Public School Bareilly etc. simulated nine committees. These included the United Nations Environmental Programme, All India Political Parties Meet, Indian War Cabinet, Narcotics Control Bureau, United Nations Human Rights Council, United Nations General Assembly, and United Nations Security Council, among others.



The occasion was also graced by the presence of the honourable Ambassador, Mr Amarendra Khatua, who delivered an inspiring address that left a lasting impression on everyone in attendance.



Mr Khatua has served as a diplomat in numerous countries, including the USA, Russian Federation, and Pakistan. He is also a renowned poet and author with more than 40 publications to his credit.



With more than 500 delegates, the event witnessed participants assuming the roles of top leaders and officials from across the world and engaging in extensive discussions to address crucial national and international issues.

The 11th edition of the conference encompassed diverse global agendas and scenarios to demonstrate and foster the critical thinking of the young participants. The comprehensive discussions included-:



Addressing illicit trade of small arms and light weapons (SALWs) in conflict zones at the United Nations General Assembly.



Right to self-determination and its implications on other human rights with emphasis on the potential for free and fair elections in all member states. The discussion was simulated at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC)



 Resolving territorial disputes by learnings from previous conflicts with a special emphasis on the Israel-Palestine region at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC)



Effective actions to tackle climate change and pollution at United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).



All India Political Parties Meet for reviewing the ten years of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA)



Analysis of military tactics and diplomatic negotiations during the Sino-Indian War in the Indian War Cabinet in 1962



Addressing the Cuban Missile Crisis in a White House Situation Room



Discussion to create and refine strategies to combat illicit drug trafficking with special emphasis on measures related to intelligence, enforcement, and coordination at the Narcotics Control Bureau



The conference also delivered numerous awards to recognise outstanding performances, including Best Delegate, High Commendation, and Special & Verbal Mention. Additionally, there were awards for Best School Delegation and Runner-Up for Best School Delegation. In this regard, the best delegation award was shared between Ryan International School, Vasant Kunj and Ryan International School, Mayur Vihar.



By engaging in simulations of intricate global issues, participants showcased their dedication to fostering positive change and designing rewarding policies to benefit societies across the world.
