Manipal Hospital Siliguri, a unit of one of the largest healthcare providers of Eastern India – Manipal Hospitals Group, successfully treated Ravi Gupta (name changed), a 22-year-old student from Kishanganj, who sustained a serious head injury after slipping and falling from a third-floor roof while flying kites. He was admitted on 3rd January 2026 in an unconscious state, where Dr. Sinthi Pal, Consultant – Emergency Medicine, was the first to assess the patient and carried out rapid assessment and initiated critical life-saving interventions. Following her prompt stabilization in the emergency department, a multidisciplinary team comprising Dr. Anurup Saha (Neurosurgery), Dr. Samit Parua (Critical Care), Dr. Soibam Jaya Leima (Plastic Surgery), Dr. Penzing Dichen Bhutia (General Surgery), Dr. Manoj Agarwal (Ophthalmology), and Dr. Pankaj Kumar (Orthopaedics) were swiftly integrated into the patients care.



Ravi was brought to the emergency department in an unconscious state, where he was provisionally diagnosed with traumatic brain injury associated with facial trauma and active nasal and oral bleeding. He was immediately intubated and shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for advanced life support. Through seamless coordination and collaborative care across departments, the patient made a steady recovery and was discharged in stable condition on 7th January 2026, underscoring how integrated teamwork played a crucial role in saving a young life.



A series of advanced diagnostic investigations, including multiple CT scans of the brain, MRI of the brain and spine, CT scan of the face, and X-rays, were conducted to assess the extent of injuries. The patient remained under close observation in the ICU and received continuous monitoring and treatment from a multidisciplinary team. After a prolonged but steady recovery in critical care, his condition stabilized, allowing him to be shifted to the general ward. Following further observation and recovery, he was discharged in a stable condition and is currently doing well.



Dr. Sinthi Pal, Consultant – Emergency Medicine, Manipal Hospital Siliguri, said, “The patient was brought in an unconscious state, and our immediate priority was rapid assessment, airway stabilization, and initiating life-saving emergency care. Early intervention and timely coordination with multiple specialties played a critical role in ensuring a positive outcome for this young patient.”



Speaking about the case, Dr. Anurup Saha, Consultant – Neurosurgery, Manipal Hospital Siliguri, said, “The patient suffered a significant traumatic brain injury due to a high-impact fall. Early airway management, rapid imaging, and timely neurosurgical and critical care intervention were crucial in preventing long-term neurological complications. His recovery highlights the importance of prompt trauma care and coordinated teamwork."



Dr. Samit Parua, Consultant – Critical Care, Manipal Hospital Siliguri, added, “Managing polytrauma patients requires constant vigilance and multidisciplinary coordination. Mr. Guptas case involved critical airway management, intensive monitoring, and gradual weaning from ventilatory support. His steady improvement reflects both his resilience and the strength of our critical care protocols.”
