Sudden cardiac arrests have been in the news off late for various reasons. And as the general populace is completely baffled by this phenomenon, an announcement of the setting up of the ‘Dr. B. K. Goyal Heart Foundation’ for prevention of sudden cardiac arrests may come as a relief to many ruffled hearts.



This announcement was made by Dr. Lekha Pathak at an event at Taj Land’s End, Bandra as part of a tribute to late Dr. B. K. Goyal. Among the speakers at this event, Shri Sushil Kumar Shinde, former Home Minister of India and Dr. Lekha Pathak, Director and Head of the Cardiology Department, Nanavati Super Specialty Hospital, were key speakers.



Dr. B. K. Goyal, the Padma awardee was the honorary dean and the chief cardiologist at the Bombay Hospital Institute of Medical Sciences. During his decade-long distinguished career, he also served at the J. J. Group of Hospitals and Grant Medical College, Mumbai.



The event was jointly organized by Heart Foundation of India, Cardiology Society of India (Mumbai Branch) , Association of Medical Consultants, General Practitioners Association, Indian Medical Association, Cardiology Department- J.J. Group of Hospitals, Cardiology Department – Bombay Hospital, Malad Medical Association and Brotherhood of Borivali Medical Association.



Sushil kumar Shinde fondly recollected his nearly fifty​ years​ long association with Dr. Goyal and gave fascinating insight into the doctor's knowledge on subjects like astrology and his role as advisor and mentor to many. Dr.Lekha Pathak elaborated on the rare qualities of Dr. B. K. Goyal including giving equal attention and time to all patients irrespective of their income profiles and further also mooted the idea to change the name of the cardiology department in Bombay hospital to ' Dr. B. K. Goyal Cardiology Department’.



Suresh Oberoi, Dr. N.O. Bansal also expressed their grief on the sad demise of Dr. B. K. Goyal and reiterated their admiration for his extensive and distinguished body of work.
